Our walking harness design allows all straps to follow the body contour, making for unbeatable comfort and for full range of motion of the head, neck, shoulders and legs. Because our walking harnesses fit properly and allow for a dog's body growth and change as he matures and ages by adjusting in five strategic locations, your dog can be free from the hair loss, rubbing and skin burns he experiences when wearing inferior harnesses. All harness straps are cut in the width appropriate for your dog's breed and size and are beveled, rounded and burnished to a silky smooth finish. The harness pictured above features the optional chest plate padded with imported genuine New Zealand lamb's wool. For individual or special needs, several harness options are available including choice of leathers, hardware, lining leathers and stitching, among others. Most of the leather harnesses and other equipment that you will find commercially are built with hardware made from nickel plate, zinc diecast or brass plate. Besides being unreliable and prone to rust and failure, it is the case that most of the allergy and irritation reactions some dogs have to their equipment is due to the high nickel or zinc content in the hardware metals. If you've made it this far in your harness selection, you will likely agree that selecting a first rate design made from first rate leather but with inferior hardware will lead to a disappointing piece of equipment. Our hardware is never plated but is made from only the best available sand cast solid brass, sand cast Italian bronze and marine grade stainless steel. Regardless of your preference, our hardware will provide the best and longest service with minimal maintenance.

Traditionally, harness lines are attached at the top center rear of the harness but not for every dog and handler. The placement of line connection points depends on the type of line preferred. Connection points can be installed on your leather harness on each side over each shoulder or on each side of the dog over the ribs. If you need connection points other than the top center rear, please request number and placement of connection points.

For those serious dogs who pull into their harnesses, we offer an optional small oval front chest pad, lined or unlined and a large contoured triangular front chest pad, lined or unlined, for your leather harness. The chest pad will be cut from the same leather that your harness is built from unless otherwise requested. These pads can offer additional stability of the walking harness and provides a surface that will conform to your dog's body for him to pull against, enhancing performance and reducing the effects of physical stress.

The harness shown here is lined with black New Zealand lamb's wool. If your dog would benefit from additional extra comfort or protection, we have available a number of soft leather harness linings. Nearly any of our leather harnesses can have the beauty and comfort of an elk (black, tobacco brown and cream), New Zealand lamb's wool (craftsman's choice), calfskin (dark brown, black and burgundy), or kid goat (black only) lining added. Each lining is carefully secured with the same materials and care we use in the making of our fine trophy saddles and custom boots. Even with our first grade soft hand-selected leathers, the extra cushion of even a lightweight harness lining can help cut down on hair loss or skin irritations sometimes suffered by those more sensitive dogs. When you select a lining, you can also select the stitching color of your choice at no extra charge. Thread colors include black, white, tan, silver, gold, red, turquoise, dark brown, orange, pacific blue, hunter green, gray and burgundy.

If you love the look of stitching on leather but don't need a harness lining for your leather dog harness, no problem! You can enjoy the look anyway! The leather dog harness shown here is made from the russet Wicket & Craig harness leather and is fully stitched in a complimentary brown for a great elegant look. Thread colors include black, white, tan, silver, gold, red, turquoise, dark brown, orange, pacific blue, hunter green, gray and burgundy.

For those extremely hard-pulling dogs who constantly stretch even the toughest equipment out of shape a bit, adjustment hole eyelets may be the solution to that problem. Securely seated and guaranteed never to come out, eyelets can make your leather dog harness even more secure and add an attractive original touch. Eyelets will be installed to match your selection of hardware.

Your leather dog harness can be personalized with either a solid brass or nickeled silver engraved plate. For our engraved flat plates, unless a specific plate size is requested, all plates are of appropriate size for the width of the harness strap and we will permanently afix each plate to your new leather dog harness. All engraving is elegantly etched for legibility.

While there is really no set number of characters that can be engraved on each plate, just remember that the more text you want engraved, the smaller the engraving will be.
